BSc Politics and International Relations

Developed by academics at LSE, this degree will help you understand key issues facing the international community, such as the causes of war and globalisation.

You will gain knowledge and understanding of how political power is distributed and organised within the state and between states.

By studying this degree you will:

  • combine a study of politics and international relations, or go on to postgraduate study in this area

You complete 12 courses for the Standard Route or 9 for the Graduate Entry Route.

100 courses- Standard route

  • Introduction to international relations
  • Introduction to modern political thought
  • Introduction to political science
  • Two courses (or equivalent half courses) from Selection group F1

200 and 300 courses

  • Comparative politics
  • International political theory
  • Nationalism and international relations
  • Democracy and democratisation

Two 300 courses from Selection groups E, IR or P plus

  • One course (or two half courses) from Selection groups E, IR, or P plus
  • One 100, 200 or 300 course (or two half courses) from any of the Selection groups

This degree will help to prepare you for careers in politics, research, management and consultancy. You could also gain entry to a master’s programme in this field.
The course will help you to question and analyse information, develop arguments, and boost your analytical and communication skills – all of which are valued by employers.
